Agri-food sector a growth engine for the Polish export
Presentation of the report titled ‘Poland an attractive producer and supplier of food’, directions of education in the agri-food sector and the issues related to the Nitrates Directive – these are the most important points of the 5th “Science-Business-Agriculture” Conference which ended in Puławy.
The main event of the Thursday conference was an official publication of the second report of the PUŁAWY Conference Center: “Poland an attractive producer and supplier of food” – With this report we want to start a discussion on a development model of the Polish agriculture in the future. This is agriculture together with the food sector which today make a key sector of our economy. This is the business of a huge potential. – says Prof. Janusz Igras Ph.D., Eng., Scientific Director in the New Chemical Syntheses Institute in Puławy, Scientific Editor of the report. Czesław Siekierski, Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Parliament, the special guest of this year’s conference added: – This is a very important subject which is surely included in our expectations and in what we should do on the national and European level. I think it is a good summary of aims for the contemporary agriculture.
Authors of the report analyzed profitability of Polish agriculture, financing possibilities of agricultural entrepreneurs and conditions of dynamising the agri-food sector, including activities promoting Polish brand. Just like Paweł Jarczewski, the President of the Grupa Azoty Management Board, the biggest Polish company producing fertilizers, stresses – Due to such initiatives as the PUŁAWY Competence Center we have got an influence on wise shaping of Polish agriculture. We are pleased about the fact because today the agriculture is an engine of Polish economy development. We have an export surplus. Let’s concentrate also on the food safety and discussion on this subject. – said Paweł Jarczewski.
Participants of the conference also discussed on the issue of education in the agri-food sector and new regulations concerning nitrates directive. The record turnout and the conference’s jubilee was summed up by Zenon Pokojski Ph.D., coordinator of the PUŁAWY Competence Center. In his opinion already now a serious debate how the Polish agriculture should look like in the future should take place: – Here, in Puławy, we want to suggest a little bit different view on the agri-food sector. And ask ourselves a question: Where do we want to be in 2025 – said Pokojski Ph.D.
