Prof. Janusz Igras Ph.D., Eng. and Zenon Pokojski Ph.D. in the programme of TVP1 – “Tydzień”
Polish agriculture, including the agri-food sector, develops very quickly. Nevertheless, in order to keep up with the top European countries we need innovation and intensive cooperation between science and practice. Among others, these were the issues discussed by the experts in “Tydzień” – programme of TVP1. The report “Poland an attractive producer and supplier of food” was an inspiration for that discussion. This is already the second publication issued by the PUŁAWY Competence Center.
Prof. Janusz Igras Ph.D., Eng., Scientific Director in the Institute of New Chemical Syntheses in Puławy, Scientific Editor of the report and Zenon Pokojski Ph.D., coordinator of the PUŁAWY Competence Center, co-author of the report were invited for the discussion in the programme. In the programme participated also: Marcin Adamczyk, Vice Director in the Agricultural Advisory Centre in Brwinów and Wiesław Gryn, agricultural entrepreneur.
– We are at a really high level concerning food production. But we should increase this level all the time. Here is the place for science. It is important to enable it the biggest possible contact with practice as scientific research is the condition of improving our products. At this moment there are many innovative solutions in Polish institutes and universities. Then, we have to take care that the knowledge be transferred to the practice on quite a regular basis. – said Prof. Igras Ph.D., Eng. and Pokojski Ph.D. added – Poland in the last 25 years doubled its national gross product per capita. But let’s ask ourselves a question about where do we want to be in 2025? Do we want to keep up with Portugal, Spain or even Italy? If we say “yes”, during next years we have to develop at the level of 4 – 4,2 %. It is about eliminating differences on the level of agricultural productivity in relation to the European fifteen. The potential is huge and it should be used appropriately.
